Al Nassr was third in the Saudi Pro League standings with 60 points. They were just six points behind champions Al Hilal.
Rudi Garcia, former AS Roma, Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais manager, has been appointed as the Yellows’ head coach.
The Yellows are also looking to improve their squad, with Miralem Pjanic (ex-Barcelona) being one of their transfer targets.
Egypt’s and Zamalek’s shot-stopper Mohamed ’Gabaski’ Abou-Gabal are also targets of Al-Nassr after a phenomenal year for country and club.
Gabaski, 33 years old, is currently out of contract. He has been linked to a move from Saudi Arabia after his outstanding performances at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to reports, Gabaski reached terms with Al Nassr and was awarded a signing bonus of around $1.86 million.
Despite the agreement being reached, Gabaski’s transfer from Al Nassr may be in jeopardy. The club is prioritising a move to sign David Ospina, a Colombian international.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Gabaski is also an unrestricted agent, as his Napoli deal has ended recently. Al-Nassr will take advantage.
However, Saudi reports claim that Al Nassr is trying to get rid of Gabaski to make room for Ospina despite Gabaski signing a three year contract.
Rudi Garcia, the new head coach, has also favored a move for Ospina. The expected arrival of the Columbian could cause Al Nassr and Saudi top-flight side Al-Tai to lend Gabaski out.
