Despite their strong rivalry, Chadwick could not help but praise the gunners’ dominance and willingness to give an account of themselves despite being defeated 3-1 by his old club Man Utd.
Gabriel Martinelli had a goal disallowed in the first half, but United won with a goal by Antony and a brace from Marcus Rashford in the second half.
Chadwick believes it was the right call by VAR to award the Martinelli goal. However, he feels that Arsenal didn’t have the best game with key players missing or not being fully fit.
: “I thought Arsenal had spells where they were exceptional – they controlled and had the lion’s share of possession throughout this game.” Chadwick explained to CaughtOffside that they had 61%, which is a lot of luck.
However, it was most likely the right decision.
“Arsenal sustained a few injuries. Thomas Partey was also out. There were questions about whether players such as Odegaard or Zinchenko would be fully fit.
Gabriel Jesus was outstanding up front. All that was lacking was a goal. This was a great performance from a single striker against two experienced centre-backs. Although he’s not the most powerful, he is a hard worker and holds the ball up very well.
EXCLUSIVE
Chelsea and Man Utd will continue to monitor Frenkie De Jong’s status after they both tried hard to sign him this year.
Full Story??
Full story?? They could have had more players if Partey had been there. But, it’s a solid squad Arteta has put together. Saka and Martinelli are always a nuisance, but Zinchenko has kind of come in and played a dual position of left-back/midfield, giving them a Manchester City feel.
: “I think they were very impressed and they’ll challenge to be a Champions League spot. It’s encouraging that United got the three points because they gave a great performance. Arsenal performed better than Liverpool at Old Trafford just a few weeks ago, so it was not an easy win for United.
“The changes from Arteta did make Arsenal a bit weaker and it gave United the impetus to go and win the game, but I’m not sure Arteta had much choice as there was probably medical advice not to play Odegaard and Zinchenko for the full 90 minutes.”
