There is still speculation about Gareth Southgate’s future, as the Three Lions are in a terrible run ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
Pochettino’s appearance at Wembley will raise some eyebrows. While Southgate’s future is still uncertain, Romano insists that it is normal for top coaches and players to attend big games such as this.
After a somewhat disappointing spell as a manager of the Ligue 1 giants in the summer, the Argentine was fired by Paris Saint-Germain. However, one can imagine that he will soon be back in a major job due to the incredible work he did at Tottenham. Romano maintains that Pochettino has not yet been offered a job and is calm and relaxed about the future. He hopes to be back in the game soon.
Romano, in an exclusive column for CaughtOffside, wrote that he’d seen reports about Gareth Southgate’s uncertain future as England manager.
“However it’s perfectly normal for a high-ranking coach to watch top matches, as Pochettino did with England-Germany. Nice approached him recently, but it wasn’t close or progress as he was looking for other options.
: “At this time, there are no contacts to FA and nothing will occur before the World Cup. Pochettino is very quiet and relaxed and waiting for a new opportunity. He isn’t looking to leave football management. He is not looking to leave football management.
“At the moment, there are no contacts with FA and nothing will happen before the World Cup; Pochettino is really quiet and relaxed, waiting for a new opportunity. He doesn’t want to take a break from football management. I think we’ll see him again soon, but where he ends up remains to be seen.”
England could surely do a lot worse than swoop for Pochettino if he is still available and if Southgate does indeed end up leaving his role soon.
