Although the Brazil international only recently joined Man Utd, he made an immediate impact and was immediately placed in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI. He scored a well-taken goal against the Gunners.
Luke Chadwick, a former Red Devils midfielder, spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside to say that Ten Hag was eager to start Antony immediately, given that he hadn’t had time to train with them since his move.
“I was surprised that Antony started the game, but it was clearly the right decision. Chadwick stated that his goal was a beautiful finish to a free-flowing play.
: “He’s a confident play, but it’s an additional boost for him to make such a great start and get the crowd behind him.” There were moments of excellence throughout the game, including flashes and skill that created opportunities.
: “It’s a little different to what we used to at United in the fact that we now play with two inverted wingers. Sancho, who is right-footed, plays on the left and Antony, who is left-footed, plays from the right. This means that there’s more emphasis on fullbacks moving forward. Yesterday, Dalot did a great job and Malacia is an attack-minded fullback.
“Antony could not have asked for a better start. Although he won’t be training with the team as long as he should, I think he is familiar with Ten Hag’s style and that is why he was able to join the team.
: “I think we could look forward to a really interesting season with Antony.”
