Tottenham Hotspur interested in Jordan Pickford
The Sun reports that Rafael Benitez, Everton’s boss, is open to selling Jordan Pickford as a goalkeeper. His contract expires in 2024, and he is the England No 1. Everton values him at PS30m. However, Tottenham may be interested in him but might not be able to pay the asking price. Tottenham is also interested in him but may struggle with his PS100,000.-a-week salary. To raise funds for January’s transfer window, Benitez would have to sell.
TipsFootballBet website’s view: Benitez can make it to January if he makes it. This seems a little far-fetched. With Everton’s boss struggling and being the favorite to win the Premier League sack race next year, Benitez could not be in a position to make that call in January. Pickford for PS30m would also be a price that very few clubs are willing to pay.
Southampton to sign Willy Caballero
The Mail reports that Southampton is close to signing Willy Caballero, a one-month emergency loan goalkeeper. Ralph Hasenhuttl is looking for cover as No 1 Alex McCarthy has been injured and backup Fraser Forster is also out. He is quickly moving to sign Caballero, a 40-year-old agent who has not had a club since leaving Chelsea.
TipsFootballBet website’s view: The less-known emergency loan. Caballero was said to be keeping fit at AFC Wimbledon. Now, he could come in during a busy time for Southampton. They have been struggling of late and would require the 40-year old to get the job done.
Barca want an answer from Dembele
Sport reports that Ousmane Dembele has been given a deadline by Barcelona to accept or reject their contract extension offer. They have extended the deadline for Dembele to respond to their final proposal until December 31. If they don’t receive a response, Dembele will be considered as leaving. His contract will expire in the summer.
TipsFootballBet website’s view: Dembele’s future. He doesn’t seem likely to renew, particularly since he left it so late, and maybe he just wants a fresh start. That’s certain.
Simone stays safe
AS reports that Diego Simeone isn’t in danger of losing his job at Atletico Madrid. Atleti, the reigning Spanish champions, are currently fourth in their Champions League group and are 10 points behind Real Madrid. Simeone is still in good form and Atleti is well aware that the club may suffer from a poor campaign.
TipsFootballBet website’s view: It is rare to see a large club so conscious that form is temporary. This is down to Simeone’s standing at Atleti, as they know he is the man to turn things around.
