Ajayi joined Al Nasr Benghazi in February 2016 after his contract at Al Ahly was ended due to a series injuries and the signings Percy Tau, and Luis Miquissone.
A 26-year old Tunisian national signed for Al Ahly after he won the Olympic bronze medal with Nigeria.
Ajayi played 161 games for Al Ahly, scoring 41 goals and providing 30 assists. He became a fan favorite, leading the club to two CAF Champions Leagues and four league titles.
Ajayi was also part of Al Ahly’s 2021 Club World Cup bronze-medal winning team, scoring a penalty against Palmeiras during the third-placed playoff.
After his contract with Al Nasr expired in July, Ajayi will be able to transfer to Egypt via Smouha for a free transfer. He has also signed a three-year contract. After the signings of Asmadat Abou Khheir defender Mahmoud El Malak and Ahmed Hussein,
Ajayi is now Smouha’s third summer signing.
Ajayi, along with Jerome Philip, Abubakar Liday and Sodiq Awujoola, will be the fourth Nigerian to join Smouha’s squad. However, it is expected that at least one of the three Nigerians will leave the club in order to make way for new signings.
SMOUHA currently sits sixth in the league table with 40 point from 27 games. They will be hoping for better results next year after losing out on Future FC’s CAF Confederation Cup slot.
