On August 13, English Premier League giants Chelsea officially announced the return of Inter Milan’s Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to the team, the two sides signed a five-year contract.
According to media reports, Lukaku’s transfer fee is up to 115 million euros, and his annual salary will reach 12 million euros.
Romelu Lukaku’s magical relationship with the blue
Lukaku’s career has always seemed to be associated with the color blue.
He was brought to the Premier League by Chelsea, made a name for himself at Everton and took it to the next level at Inter Milan.
As a player who has played in the Premier League for eight years, Lukaku is more of an old Premier League acquaintance as the most expensive player in the history of the Blues.
The transfer, although expensive, was less surprising because of Lukaku’s ties to the Premier League and Chelsea.
Lukaku is one of the best wingers in the world
And from a competitive point of view, the transfer of Lukaku is still considered a pretty “accurate” deal.
Lukaku left Old Trafford in 2019 unhappy, but his two seasons at Inter Milan have been pretty enjoyable.
He scored 63 goals in 94 games for the Blue and Blacks and was last season’s Serie A Most Valuable Player. Although still a long way from competing for the Ballon d’Or, his status as one of the best wingers in the world has been more than recognized.
Chelsea’s weakest position
Where is the weakest position in Chelsea’s lineup? The center forward, of course.
In order to strengthen the center forward position, Chelsea was once rumored with Harland this summer. But for the Blues, Lukaku may be a more suitable candidate, as he is in his prime and also has a lot of experience in the Premier League.
After two years, Lukaku has matured even more after his experience in Italy. The fact that Chelsea is offering him a salary of 10 million euros is proof that they trust Lukaku enough.
In any sense, Lukaku’s re-engagement with Chelsea seems to be a deal that happens at the right time and in the best interest of both parties.
This summer’s EPL transfer market boom
So far, the overall prosperity of the Premier League in this summer’s transfer market has been impressive: Manchester City signed Gralish for the highest transfer fee in Premier League history, Chelsea got winger Lukaku, and Manchester United signed Varane and Sancho.
Also the transfers of Romero, Hill (Tottenham Hotspur), Cornet (Liverpool), Ben White (Arsenal) and Patson Daka (Leicester City) show the determination of the Premier League teams.
The activity of Premier League clubs in the transfer market will also give them more confidence in the European competition next season.
